Caló Kitchen + Tequila (LA)

I’m so excited to share my first “other city” post! I went on a short trip to California for my friend, Roselei’s, birthday for the weekend and landed at LAX. When Roselei & her friend, Alejandro, picked me up, she asked me if I was hungry and I (obviously) was after a 5 hour trip. I knew exactly what I wanted. Tacos.

I’m in California which is supposedly the Mecca of authentic Mexican food (besides Mexico of course). It’s also important to point out that I am a huge Mexican food fan, it definitely is in my top 3 ethnic cuisines (we’ll talk about my top 3 another time). After endless choices and Yelp reviews we finally found a place in Los Angeles called Caló Kitchen + Tequila. To be completely honest it was the “Tequila” that sold me. Don’t judge me, I had a long flight!!!

We walked into the restaurant which had a modern/garden vibe. It was really cute and we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was super nice and we had endless conversations with him over our complimentary chips, salsa & bean dip (yum!).

For a drink I had a La Sandia margarita which has watermelon juice, lime, agave, a touch of fresh basil & obviously TEQUILA!

Yes it was as delicious and refreshing as it looks! You also have the option to make it a spicy margarita which I opted out of but would probably taste equally amazing.

For my lunch I ordered a classic pineapple & pork taco.

This. Was. The. Best. Taco. I’ve. Ever. Had. No exaggeration I was in bliss when I was eating my tacos. The sweetness of the pineapple paired with the perfectly seasoned & juicy pork was like a symphony in my mouth. The homemade tortilla added another dimension of freshness and flavor. Everything else on the plate was also good but the tacos rightfully outshone them. I miss these so much I would eat one everyday if I could but you can check it out for yourself: http://www.calokitchen.com
