Delicatessen
Picture this: It’s a beautiful summer day in SoHo and you just want to have a nice, comforting dinner and dranks with your girls. This is how I came across Delicatessen. Val, Steph, Mia (our amazing addition for the day) and I decided to hit up the notorious Delicatessen in trendy SoHo.
First words that popped into my mind when walking into the restaurant are: sleek, clean and modern. The decor is so pretty and well thought out; perfect for a girls day/night out or a cute date. The large windows bring in a beautiful natural light (perfect for my selfie obsessed friends).
Now for the most important part…the food. For the appetizers we ordered; cheeseburger spring rolls, mac lobsta’ and the signature tuna tartare (not pictured).
We were really excited to eat the spring rolls because they are a Delicatessen staple but it was the tuna tartare that stole the show. The spring rolls and mac were good but we were expecting more flavor and it was just a bit underwhelming. However, the tuna tartare was amaaaaaazing and I wanted MORE!
Next for the entrees we shared; buttermilk fried chicken, mushroom tagliatelle, truffle-parmigiano fries and the plat du jour which was a steak dish on a bed of broccolini with crunchy rice squares.
We were seriously disappointed by the flavor of the fried chicken even though our waiter warned us that “its not grandma’s fried chicken”. On the bright side it was cooked very well, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Ironically the cornbread on the side outshined the chicken by a landslide. Next up is the mushroom tagliatelle which would have been 10 times better if it had been blessed with more sauce and wasn’t so dry! Now the fries…I could eat them nonstop. They were amazing and I’m only sad that the 4 of us were fighting over that last fry. Last we had the plat du jour which had steak, broccolini and crispy rice squares. This was by far my favorite entree; combining the melt-in-your-mouth steak and perfectly seasoned rice square was like a party in my mouth. I hope they bring this dish back soon!
Last but not least, for dessert we ordered; cinnamon sugar churros, milk and cereal cheesecake and chocolate chip cookie and nutella dome.
I’m a huge churro snob so these were not up to my standards and to be very blunt I hated the sauces that accompanied them even more. Luckily the other two desserts pulled through. The chocolate chip and nutella dome was a personal favorite (I’m biased cause I’m a chocolate freak) but the majority at the table was going crazy for the cheesecake.
Overall I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was above average but some of the dishes left me wanting more. I would definitely come back here for a quick bite after a long day of shopping in SoHo.
